Enabling New Possibilities in Architectural Solar Lighting
Device Logic is bringing their utility–scale solar expertise to bear in exciting new architectural projects. The state of the art Radiance™ solar tracking system is being deployed to enable architects to achieve previously impossibly visual and thermal effects.
Heliostats (movable mirrors) are able to direct sunlight, on demand, to many locations around and on a building. They can be tuned to provide light, heat or a combination of both limited only by the vision of the clients and architects. Many special effects can be achieved by blending mirrors with lights and using secondary reflectors to futher enhance the sunlight.

Adding to the ambience and amenity of an exciting new architectural project
The innovative Central Park development, designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel and developed by Frasers Property, is using heliostats to enhance the amenity of parklands and to add stunning effects to the buildings and retail precinct.
The heliostats and secondary reflectors (mounted on a cantilevered support structure) are used to bring daylight to areas of the development formerly in shadow, add light to the commercial precinct and also to highlight significant architectural features.
Device Logic was awarded the contract to supply optical and thermal modelling to support the development of the project. We were required to simulate various effects based on time of day and year to ensure that the developer and architect achieved the visual effects they wanted, while preserving the safety of visitors and residents.
The outputs of this process were used to finalise the design of the cantilevered secondary reflector structure and the location and distribution of the reflected light. The outputs were also used to confirm the architect's vision for the use of light.
Device Logic provided the tracking system used to control the sunlight. The state of the art Radiance™ system was deployed to ensure the successful outcome of this world-first project.
